Horn
Snæfellsnes´ pyramid
Challenging hike
Itinerary
We meet in Stykkishólmur and from there, drive to Vatnaleið heath in Snæfellsnes peninsula (15 min by car). The guide tells about the geology and folk tales related to the area, but troll areas like this area are hard to find. This is a moderately difficult walk, 4.3 km long and the elevation gain is 243 m. It's really impossible to describe the natural beauty on this walk. You will be literally speechless, struck by the amazing landscape and geological formations you see along the way. Predominant is sandstone, but also chert and flaky rock. There is a lot to see on the way and we give ourselves plenty of time. Going all the way to the top is not for those afraid of hights, but nothing beats standing at the top of the Horn with a perfect panoramic view in all directions, over Breiðafjörður, all the islands, the rugged Berserkjahraun lava and lakes. When you come down from Horn again, you can take a dip in the ice cold and refreshing Hraunsfjörður Lake and hikers enjoy a local style picnic outside in God's green nature. There is no rush and in the end we head back to Stykkishólmur (15 min by car).
